When you follow any of the methods above, you will see the following notification: ‘Kindly wait as your FREE Data is being processed.‘

Safaricom free 100MB YouTube bundle: A few things I have noticed
The bundle is not available daily. Unlike the Safaricom Education 100MB bundle that has been made available to Safaricom users since 2020, the free YouTube bundle can’t be accessed daily.
0- Browse products by brand: Tecno, Infinix, Samsung, Huawei, Annov, HP, Garnier, Apple, Android, Ramtons, LG, Oppo, Redmi / Xiaomi, Nokia, X-tigi, iTel, Zuku, DStv, Startimes, GOtv, ZTE, Cubot, Gionee, Realme, Lenovo, Motorola, Oukitel, Oneplus, Bruhm, Phillips, Umidigi, Hisense, GLD, Skyworth, Amazon, Mika, Vivo, Oraimo, Toshiba, Acer, Asus, Syinix, Sayona, Von Hotpoint, Ampex, Sony, Toyota & Honda on Jumia Kenya.
Sometimes it will be shown on both the *544# and *100# menus at other times you won’t see the option to access the bundle using either of these Safaricom USSD shortcodes for days.
So, what do you do when you want the bundle and you don’t see the FREE Data option when you dial *544#? Well, you will have to wait for days for it to reappear. And the wait, according to what I have seen, should be three days minimum.
So, if you access the bundle early in the week, the FREE Data option will disappear and probably reappear as the week nears the end. 4 to 5 days should be a good time to check again if you like using this bundle.
Yes, I know the text message says to check next week for the bundle but I have written all this because you might have the urge to check within days if the telco has made another 100MB free data available to you.
The bundle, once accessed, will be valid for 1 hour. That doesn’t mean you will enjoy watching videos on YouTube for a whole hour.
If you are watching videos at a higher resolution (which is what I find to be the default setting whenever I have used this bundle to view content on YouTube), the bundle will be finished in just a matter of minutes – 10 minutes maybe.
So, how do you get more out of this bundle. Click the cog / gear (top right corner when you tap on a video) once you start watching a YouTube video to access the settings area and lower the video resolution to 240p or 144p.
1- Browse latest clothes, shoes, baby fashion, kid’s fashion, women’s fashion & men’s fashion, electronics, feature phones, smartphones, laptops, tablets, power banks, memory cards, smart watches, on Jumia.
This is great if you just want to listen to new music, watch comedy, watch the news, watch speeches or re-watch videos you’ve consumed before.
And to make your work easier, just visit YouTube.com via your web browser instead of using the YouTube app on your device.
2- Browse latest TVs, fridges, microwaves, dispensers, cookers, furniture, kitchenware, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, headphones, earphones / headsets, phone cases, chargers, MiFi routers, bluetooth speakers on Jumia.
This bundle was probably created to incentivize users to:
- Buy the YouTube bundles available when you dial *544# – the KSh 10 (80MB), KSh 20 (200MB) and the KSh 50 (500MB) bundles.
- Buy Safaricom Data bundles with no expiry.
- Buy Safaricom Data bundles with expiry (daily, weekly, monthly, All in One and 90 day bundles).
- Buy Safaricom Tunukiwa internet bundles.
- Buy Safaricom Giga bundles.
So, when you go about enjoying your free 100MB bundle on YouTube, remember that you will probably have to pay for something bigger to enjoy streaming content on YouTube.
