Credit transfer: send airtime to another Telkom Kenya number

Like Safaricom Sambaza, Telkom Kenya has their own service that allows sharing of airtime between subscribers. The service is called Telkom Kenya Credit Transfer.

Usage:

  • You can top up airtime on your Telkom line via scratch card, then send some of the airtime in your account to another Telkom Kenya phone number. In fact you can do this using the same format Safaricom subscribers use to sambaza airtime (*140*AMOUNT*NUMBER#).
  • You can use it to exchange airtime with a friend or family member. They can send you some airtime to your Telkom Kenya line from their number – say KSh 50. You can then sambaza KSh 50 to their Safaricom line.

How to transfer credit to another Telkom Kenya line

Here’s the easiest way to do it:

  • Dial *140*AMOUNT*NUMBER#. To send 100 Shillings to 0771123456 for example, type the following: *140*100*0771123456#
  • Press the Call / OK button
  • Confirm if they have received the airtime from you

With this service you can allow certain Telkom Kenya phone numbers to call your number for free.

The cost of the call will not be deducted from the number calling you.

It will be deducted from your own line.

You might find this service useful if you are a parent – set it up for your househelp and children – and then tell them how to you use the reverse call feature to reach you any time they want.

Once you have activated the service, you can tell anyone with a Telkom line to put 128 before destination number for a reverse call.

In the reverse call menu, there are also options to whitelist or blacklist certain numbers. At the moment, the options look like this:

  • option 2: Black list Numbers (calls not payable)
  • option 3: White list Numbers (calls payable)

Beat yangu: Set a tune to entertain people when they call your Telkom number
