Why does YouTube want me to verify my YouTube channel?
I started a YouTube channel recently and once I started uploading videos via YouTube Studio, I was prompted to verify my channel in order to be able to unlock more features on the creator platform YouTube.
What are some things you can share with me about this – as I embark on my journey as a YouTube creator?
To combat spam, YouTube will want to verify that you are a legitimate user.
Verifying your account will unlock various features offered by YouTube to its users.
Once you verify your details, you will be able to do the following:
You will be able to add YouTube video descriptions with links.
You will be able to add comments with links – especially if you want to pin comments.
You will be able to pin comments
You will be able to upload longer videos – videos that are over 15 minutes long for example. You will be able to avoid problems such as uploading a long video then not being to take it from ‘Draft’ to ‘Published’ status. Avoid the ‘Processing abandoned. Video is too long.’ notification that shows up when you try to upload longer videos without completing some of the verification steps YouTube requires users to go through in the early stages.
To verify your YouTube account / channel here are some of the options that will be available to you:
-Verify with your phone number.
-Taking a 6-second video of yourself.
-Taking a photo of your ID
-Two months of active use as a YouTube to build history as you grow your YouTube channel.
