The new self-service menu on Safaricom *100#

The Safaricom *100# menu has been changed a few times over the years. In this post I take a look at the options the telco added to the 100 menu in 2019.

Here’s how the *100# menu on Safaricom looks like.

If you have a Safaricom prepaid line and dial the *100# USSD code, the menu you’ll get will look like the one above.

Now, let’s take a look at what Safaricom subscribers will find under each option on the menu.

Let’s see what you can do on your own line when you dial *100#.

Set Safaricom Jitambulishe: your voice as your password

  • Dial *100#
  • Select option 0: Jitambulishe
    Reply with:
  • 1: Enroll
  • 2: Tell a friend
  • 3: Check Referral Status
  • 4: Upgrade Jitambulishe

Use this option to add an extra layer of security to your Safaricom line. All you need is follow the instructions above. You will then find the instructions on what to do next. For example if this is the first time you want to activate Jitambulishe on your line, dial the number 456 and press the Call button.

Help the mobile phone service provider combat fraud within its own network by adding another unique identifier to your line: your voice.

If you have enabled Jitambulishe and want to recommend it to a friend or family member, use the option that says Tell a Friend. They will receive a text message with further instructions.

Initiate M-PESA reversal

  • Dial *100#
  • Select option 1: M-PESA/Reversal
    Then reply with
  • 1: Reversal
  • 2: Unlock PIN
  • 3: M-PESA Charges
  • 4: Statement
  • 5: SIM Card Update
  • 6: Fuliza
  • 7: Hakikisha
  • 8: Next of Kin
  • 9: M-PESA Products
  • 10: M-PESA Services

Use this option to reverse money you send to a wrong number from your M-PESA account. Also use this option to activate Hakikisha, activate Fuliza overdraft services or get your M-PESA statements.

The menu also displays some of the options usually associated with the *234# M-PESA USSD code. For example you can update your M-PESA menu, add a next of KIN, check M-PESA charges (to send and withdraw), pay bills and more.

Replace your Safaricom SIM card

  • Dial *100#
  • Select option 2:Sim Replacement
    Reply with
  • 1: Replace Your Number
  • 2: More about SIM Replacement
  • Enter the Safaricom number you wish to replace e.g. 0704123456
  • You will then receive a text message that reads as follows: ‘Dear customer, kindly visit the nearest Safaricom care centre for assistance on your SIM replacement request. Carry your original ID with you.’

Use this option if you want to find more information on what it takes to replace a lost or damaged Safaricom SIM card. Or if you want to move from the old Safaricom SIM cards to a 4G capable SIM.

Check and redeem Bonga Points on your Safaricom line

  • Dial *100#
  • Select option 3: Bonga
    Reply with
  • 0: Get 8 Ksh airtime for 25 Bonga points
  • 1: Lipa na Bonga Points
  • 2: Check Bonga Points
  • 3: Redeem Bonga Points
  • 4: Enroll
  • 5: Transfer Bonga Points
  • 6: Set or Change Bonga PIN
  • 7: Daily Bundles Renewal
  • 8: Flexible Bonga Phones

Use this option to enroll to the Bonga Points reward service, redeem points you have accumulated, transfer points or to check your Bonga Points balance.

Redeem points for airtime (minutes, SMS and data) or devices (such as tablets, smartphones, routers and modems).

Check your Safaricom account details

  • Dial *100#
  • Select option 4:My Account
    Reply with
  • 1: My Number
  • 2: Shop Near Me
  • 3: Safaricom App
  • 4: Quick Info

Use this option to get your Safaricom phone number. If you haven’t memorized it yet, you can always follow the steps above.

You can also use this option to receive an SMS with a download link for MySafaricom App – which you can use to manage your Safaricom account.

You can also use this option to find more information about Safaricom shops near you – their exact location and contact details.

Check services you are subscribed to on Safaricom

  • Dial *100#
  • Select option 5:My Subscriptions
    Check My Subscriptions > Reply with
  • 1: Data Bundles
  • 2: SMS Bundles
  • 3: Skiza
  • 4: Premium Services and Games
  • 5: Marketing Messages
  • 6: Weekly Notifications
  • 7: Stop Safaricom Promotion SMS
  • 8: Deactivate Roaming Service

Use this option to view your active bundles / subscriptions and unsubscribe from the ones you don’t want to use anymore.

If there is a service you are subscribed to (daily / weekly) and you want to stop Safaricom from deducting airtime from your prepaid account, use this option.

If you don’t want to receive certain text messages from Safaricom, you can also use this option to stop such texts from getting into your inbox.

Check your Safaricom data balance and activate data manager

  • Dial *100#
  • Select option 6:Balance & Data Manager
    Reply with
  • 1: Balance
  • 2: Data Manager
  • 3: Data Usage
  • 4: Data Management Tips
  • 5: Top-Up (your number or another number with a voucher PIN)

Use this option to activate or deactivate Safaricom data manager. Or to check your data bundle balance. Or to check your data usage. Or to top up your Safaricom line.

Purchase various Safaricom products and services

Use this option to learn more about the various Safaricom products and services – such as the ones listed above.

You can also activate / purchase / deactivate / stop any of the services listed above by dialing *100# or *456#.

Get Safaricom PUK number

  • Dial *100#
  • Select option 8: Get PUK
  • Enter the mobile number you want to get PUK code for
  • Enter your ID number
    Wait for SMS with your PUK details

Use this option to get PUK code for any Safaricom line. All you need to get started is the phone number you want to unblock and the ID number associated with it.

Buy Safaricom voice, data and SMS bundles

Use this option to buy various Safaricom bundles. Buy daily bundles, weekly bundles, 30 day bundles, 90 day bundles, All in One Monthly bundles and more.

Also buy data, calls and SMS with no expiry date.
