In this post I am going to show you how to buy Safaricom data bundles for your line. I am going to show you examples – step by step instructions you can follow – to buy daily data bundles, 7 day data bundles, 30 day data bundles and 90 day data bundles.
I am also going to show you how to access the Data Bundles menu using the *544#, *100# and *456# USSD shortcodes. And if you just want to check you data bundle balance, there is a section for that too.
- Daily bundles: Here, you will find the cheapest data bundle by Safaricom – a Kenya Shilling 5 bundle (for 7 MB + 7 SMS). The biggest daily bundle costs KSh 99 (for 500 MB + 500 SMS + WhatsApp). There is also a KSh 50, KSh 20 and a KSh 10 bundle. See the list below for more details.
- 7 day bundles: The cheapest bundle on the list costs Kenya Shillings 50 (for 100 MB). The biggest bundle costs KSh 500 (for 3 GB + WhatsApp). There is also a KSh 250 and a KSh 99 weekly bundle.
- 30 day bundles: The cheapest costs Kenya Shillings 250 while the biggest monthly bundle on the list (25 GB + WhatsApp) costs KSh 3000. Other bundles cost KSh 2000, 1000 and 500. See the list below for more details.
- 90 day bundles: The cheapest costs Kenya Shillings 3000 (for 6 GB) while the most expensive bundle on the list goes for KSh 9000 (90 GB). The other bundle on the list goes for KSh 6000 and gets you 16 GB.

How to buy a Daily bundle
To buy the Shillings 5 bundle for example, follow the steps below:
- Dial *544#
- Select option 3: Normal Data Bundle WITH EXPIRY
- Select option 2: Daily Bundle
- Scroll down and reply with 5 for the Sh5 (7MB+7SMS) bundle
- Reply with 1 (Buy Once) to complete the transaction – you’ll be billed once
- Reply with 2 (Auto Renew) to complete the transaction – you’ll be billed every 24 hours
- ‘Buy Daily 7MB + 7SMS @ Sh5 using:’
- Reply with 1 to pay with Airtime OR 2 to pay via M-PESA
- Wait for an SMS with the details of your purchase. It will look something like this: ‘You have purchased 7MB+7SMS, Expiry date: 07/10/2019 10:00 PM. Dial *544*44# to check your bundle balance.’
If you have insufficient airtime, you’ll see the following: ‘You have insufficient Airtime, select another payment option: 1: M-PESA or 2: Okoa Bundle’

- Sh 500 (3GB + WhatsApp)
- Sh 250 (1GB + WhatsApp)
- Sh 99 (350MB + WhatsApp)

How to buy a 7 Day bundle
To buy the KSh 250 (1 GB) weekly bundle, follow the steps below:
- Dial *544#
- Select option 3: Normal Data Bundle WITH EXPIRY
- Select option 3: 7 Day Bundle
- Reply with 2 for the Sh250 (1GB + WhatsApp) bundle
- Buy 1GB + 1.5GB WhatsApp @Sh250 using:
- If you have at least KSh 250 reply with 1 to pay for the bundle with Airtime
- Or reply with 2 to pay with M-PESA if your airtime is insufficient. If you select the M-PESA option, you’ll see the following: ‘Total amount to be Deducted from MPESA will be: Data Bundle: 250, Okoa Jahazi: 0, TOTAL: 250’
- Reply with 1 to Accept and pay via M-PESA or 2 to Cancel (to buy airtime from M-PESA for your line before you attempt to buy the bundle again)

To buy the KSh 1000 (5GB + WhatsApp) monthly bundle, follow the steps below:
- Dial *544#
- Select option 3: Normal Data Bundle WITH EXPIRY
- Select option 4: 30 Day Bundle
- Reply with 3 for the Sh1000 (5GB + WhatsApp) bundle
- ‘Buy 5GB + 6GB WhatsApp@ Sh1000 using:’
- Reply with 1 to buy with Airtime OR 2 to pay for the data bundle using money in your M-PESA account.

- Sh 9000 (30GB)
- Sh 6000 (16GB)
- Sh 3000 (6GB)
How to buy a 90 Day bundle
To buy the KSh 6000 (16GB) 90 day data bundle, follow the steps below:
- Dial *544#
- Select option 3: Normal Data Bundle WITH EXPIRY
- Scroll down and enter 7 / 98 to view more items on the menu
- Select option 16: Buy 90 Day Bundle
- Reply with 2 for the Sh6000 (16GB)
- Choose how you want to pay for the bundle. Reply with 1 to pay with Airtime or 2 to pay via M-PESA
- ‘Please confirm purchase of 16GB @Sh.6000 valid for 90 days.’
- Reply with 1: Accept
- Or cancel the transaction by replying with 2 (Decline).
How to stop auto renew of bundles on Safaricom
If you purchased a data bundle and enable autorenew (autorenewal), use the steps below to unsubscribe / opt out.
- Dial *544#
- Select option 3: Normal Data Bundle WITH EXPIRY
- Scroll down and enter 7 / 98 to go to the next page on the menu
- Select option 12: Stop Auto Renewal
OR
- Dial *456#
- Select option 9: Stop – to check your subscriptions (data bundles, SMS bundles, Skiza, premium services and games, promotional messages, weekly notifications, stop Safaricom promotion SMS & deactivate Roaming service)
- Select option 1: Data Bundles
- Reply with 1 to View Active Bundles OR 2 to Unsubscribe.
How to check bundle balance
To check your Safaricom data bundle balance:
- Dial *544*44#

- Select option 4: Check Balance
- Wait for SMS with your balance
OR
- Dial *544#
- Select option 3: Normal Data Bundle WITH EXPIRY
- Enter 7 to view More items
- Select option 9: Balance
- Wait for SMS
Here are example texts you’ll get from Safaricom with your bundle balance details
- You’ll get this when you don’t have an active bundle / you data bundle is depleted: ‘Your current balance is 0’
- You’ll get this SMS when you check your Tunukiwa internet bundle balance using the *544# code (instead of *444#): ‘Tunukiwa Hourly Data : 285MB, Expiry: 24-08-2019 23:59’
- You will get this SMS, if you are subscribed to a daily data bundle: ‘Daily Internet Bundle: 6 MB, Expiry: 25-07-2019 00:22. On-net SMS: 5 SMS, Expiry: 25-07-2019 00:22.’
- If you have two active data bundles, you’ll get a text that looks like this: ‘Daily Internet Bundle: 5 MB, Expiry: 05-07-2019 14:22. Giga Bundle: 700 MB, Expiry: 05-07-2019 18:22. On-net SMS: 4 SMS, Expiry: 05-07-2019 14:22.’

How do I check the bundles balance for my laptop single user modem?
Open your Safaricom Broadband app and click the My Prepay Account tab.
In the last field (labeled: 450 bundle purchase), simply enter *544*44# and click Send.
Wait for a confirmation message with your data bundle balance details.
You should find the SMS in the Text tab.
