Other Safaricom M-PESA services (menu via *234# USSD shortcode)

I published an article about Safaricom M-PESA awhile ago. In the article, I wrote about the various options you’d see when you access M-PESA via the Safaricom SIM Toolkit menu.

What you may not know is that there are even more M-PESA options / services not included in the normal M-PESA menu you usually see when you access your M-PESA account via the SIM Toolkit.

This article is dedicated to those extra M-PESA features / services – the ones you’ll see when you dial *234# on your feature phone, smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer (if using your SIM in a modem or router).

Other ways to access these M-PESA services

I have already mentioned that you can dial *234# to access the extra M-PESA services above. But dialing *234# is not the only way to access these extras. There are other methods you can use – for example Safaricom USSD codes such as *100# and *456#.

To use the USSD codes:

  • Dial *100#
  • Select option 3: M-PESA

OR

  • Dial *456#
  • Select option 5: M-PESA

Now that you can use the *234#, *100# and *456# USSD codes to access these extra M-PESA services, let’s take a look at some of the items available under some of them.

Fuliza M-PESA

This is a partnership between Safaricom and various banks. You can join the overdraft service as long as you have an active Safaricom line with a functional M-PESA account.

You can then use Fuliza during times when your M-PESA balance is insufficient. What happens is you get money from Fuliza which you can use to complete an M-PESA transaction – and pay back later.

To join Fuliza, you just have to dial *234# and select Yes.

How much do you get charged when you get money from the service? Read on to find out.

If you get a Fuliza of between Kenya Shillings 0 and 100, a one-time fee of KSh 2 will be charged. If you get a Fuliza of between Kenya Shillings 101 and 500, a 1% access fee and a daily fee of KSh 5 will be charged.

If you get a Fuliza of between Kenya Shillings 501 and 1000, a 1% access fee and a daily fee of KSh 10 will be charged. If you get a Fuliza of between Kenya Shillings 1001 and 1500, a 1% access fee and a daily fee of KSh 20 will be charged.

If you get a Fuliza of between Kenya Shillings 1501 and 2500, a 1% access fee and a daily fee of KSh 25 will be charged. If you get a Fuliza of between Kenya Shillings 2501 and 70000, a 1% access fee and a daily fee of KSh 30 will be charged.

To Fuliza Ksh 1000, you will be charged 1% access fee which is Ksh 10.00 and a daily fee of Ksh 10. To Fuliza Ksh 2000, you will be charged 1% access fee which is Ksh 20.00 and a daily fee of Ksh 25. To Fuliza Ksh 3000, you will be charged 1% access fee which is Ksh 30.00 and a daily fee of Ksh 30. To Fuliza Ksh 4000, you will be charged 1% access fee which is Ksh 40.00 and a daily fee of Ksh 30.

To Fuliza Ksh 5000, you will be charged 1% access fee which is Ksh 50.00 and a daily fee of Ksh 30. To Fuliza Ksh 10000, you will be charged 1% access fee which is Ksh 100.00 and a daily fee of Ksh 30. To Fuliza Ksh 20000, you will be charged 1% access fee which is Ksh 200.00 and a daily fee of Ksh 30. To Fuliza Ksh 50000, you will be charged 1% access fee which is Ksh 500.00 and a daily fee of Ksh 30.

To check Fuliza balance and confirm daily fee on the mini statement, dial *234*0#.

To repay your Fuliza, just deposit money in your M-PESA account. Any monies you receive while having an outstanding Fuliza will automatically go towards repayment of the full amount you got from Fuliza M-PESA. And all payments have to be made within 30 days.

To increase your limit and access bigger amounts via Fuliza:

  • Continue using Safaricom and M-PESA services frequently
  • Repay Fuliza M-PESA in time by topping up your M-PESA account.

M-PESA Products

  • M-Shwari (which in turn has the following items under it > Lock Savings Account, Smart Loan, Loan Limit Request, Savings Interest Rate, Loan Account Features, and Key Terms & Conditions)
  • International Money Transfer
  • Bill Manager
  • M-PESA 1Tap ( > Manage Tag/Cards, and Cashier SMS Optout)
  • M-PESA Paybill Request (> Select Account Type: Paybill, Bulk Payment, and Short Term Paybill)
  • SIM Card Update
  • M-PESA Buy Goods Request
  • M-PESA Tuma Popote ( > enter recipient phone number and amount of money to send)

M-PESA Agent Services

The items under this option include:

  • Reversal Request
  • MPESA Float
  • Service Complaints
  • Fraud Reporting
  • Stawisha Biashara
  • Super Agency KYC
  • Business Finance
  • What is my Short Code

Merchant Services

You’ll find the following under this option:

  • Business Loan
  • Withdraw Cash
  • Make Payments
  • My Account Services
  • My requests

M-PESA Information

This has the following items under it:

  • M-PESA Receipts
  • M-PESA Statement
  • Tariff Query
  • Report Complaint
  • Business Numbers
  • HAKIKISHA
  • Next of Kin
  • M-PESA PIN Unlock

M-PESA Services

This has options similar to the ones you normally see when you access your M-PESA account via the Safaricom SIM Toolkit menu.

The items you will find here include:

  • Send Money
  • Withdraw Cash

  • Lipa na M-PESA
  • My Account

M-PESA Promos

The items currently listed under this option include:

  • M-PESA Me
  • Biashara ni M-PESA
  • Jaza Pesa Promotion
  • Story Ibambe na M-PESA

So these are the extra features / services you will find under the Safaricom M-PESA menus on *234#, *100# or *456#.

Note also that you can call M-PESA customer care for free on your Safaricom line by dialing 234.
