How to buy Equitel data plus bundles & check balance

After the introductory post on Equitel products and services a few days ago, I published another article on how to check Equitel airtime balance. Today I have a new post dedicated to Equitel Data Plus Bundles.

I am going to show you how to use the *544# USSD shortcode to buy various bundles (listed below) for your line or another Equitel line.

And at the end of the post, I’m going to show you some quick ways to check your data bundles balance.

Equitel offers bundles under three categories in the Buy Data Plus Bundles menu.

Daily bundles: data bundles valid for only 24 hours.
Weekly bundles: data bundles valid for 7 days.
Monthly bundles: data bundles valid for 30 days.

Buy daily data plus bundles on Equitel

Here’s the full list of bundles valid for 1 day:

120 MB + 120 SMS at Kenya Shillings 44
70 MB + 70 SMS at KSh 38
40 MB + 40 SMS at KSh 28
25 MB + 25 SMS at KSh 17
10 MB + 10 SMS at KSh 7
7 MB + 7 SMS at KSh 6

How to buy daily Data Plus bundles for your line or other Equitel line

I’m going to use the 25 MB + 25 SMS at KSh 17 bundle above to show you how to purchase a daily bundle from this menu.

Dial *544# on your feature phone, smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer (if using a modem or router)
Enter 99 to go to the next page on the menu
Select option 5. Buy Data Plus Bundles
Select option 1. For this Line OR 2. For Other Equitel Line
If you select option 2. For Other Equitel Line -> Enter number e.g. 0765123456 -> then select 1. Daily
Reply with 1 for Daily
Reply with 4 for the 25MB+25SMS @KSh 17
You’ll see the following: You have selected Data Bundle Plus of Daily 25 MB + 25 SMS at KSh 17 valid across all networks
Reply with 1. Buy Once OR 2. Buy & Auto renew OR 3. Cancel.
If you want to be billed one time, reply with 1 (Buy Once)
If you want to be billed daily, reply with 2 (Buy & Autorenew)
Next, reply with 1. Airtime OR 2. Account and press OK
If you reply with 1 (Airtime), wait for a confirmation SMS from Equitel.
If you reply with 2 (Account), you’ll see the following: We sent you a push to choose an account, kindly wait.
A few seconds later you’ll see this pop up on your screen: You are going to topup 25 MB + 25 SMS @ KSh 17. Kindly choose source account.
Press OK
Select Equity Bank account number connected to your Equitel line e.g. 7775120581447
Enter account PIN e.g. 4790
Wait for a reply / SMS from Equitel confirming the success of the transaction

Buy weekly data plus bundles on Equitel

Here’s the full list of bundles valid for 1 week:

100 MB at Kenya Shillings 80
50 MB at KSh 40
20 MB at KSh 20
15 MB at KSh 15

How to buy weekly Data Plus bundles for your line or other Equitel line

I’m going to use the 100 MB at KSh 80 bundle above to show you how to purchase a weekly internet bundle from this menu.

Dial *544#
Enter 99 to view more items on the menu
Select option 5. Buy Data Plus Bundles
Select option 1. For this Line OR 2. For Other Equitel Line
If you select option 2. For Other Equitel Line -> Enter number e.g. 0765123456 -> then select 2. Weekly
Reply with 2 for Weekly
Reply with 1 for the 100MB at @KSh 80
You’ll see the following: You have selected Data Bundle Plus of Weekly 100 MB @ KSh 80 valid across all networks
Reply with 1. Buy Once OR 2. Buy & Auto renew OR 3. Cancel.

Buy monthly data plus bundles on Equitel

Here’s the full list of bundles valid for 1 month:

8 GB at Kenya Shillings 2199
5 GB at KSh 1599
2 GB at KSh 999
800 MB at KSh 439
250 MB at KSh 219

How to buy monthly Data Plus bundles for your line or other Equitel line

I’m going to use the 2 GB at KSh 999 bundle above to show you how to purchase a monthly internet bundle from this menu.

Dial *544#
Enter 99 to view more items on the menu (or SKIP all these by dialing *544*5#)
Select option 5. Buy Data Plus Bundles
Select option 1. For this Line OR 2. For Other Equitel Line
If you select option 2. For Other Equitel Line -> Enter number e.g. 0765123456 -> then select 3. Monthly
Reply with 3 for Monthly
Reply with 3 for the 2 GB @KSh 999 bundle
You’ll see the following: You have selected Data Bundle Plus of Monthly 2 GB @KSh 999 valid across all networks
Reply with 1. Buy Once OR 2. Buy & Auto renew OR 3. Cancel.

How to check data plus bundles balance on Equitel

To check your internet bundle balance,

dial *544#
reply with 99 to view more items on the Equitel’s bundles menu
reply with 8. Check balance
wait for SMS with your bundle balance details

You can also check your data balance by simply dialing *544*8# on your Equitel line.

That’s it!

Use the daily bundles above to send text messages across all networks in Kenya – and use the data component to browse the web.

Use the weekly and monthly bundles to browse the web as well. It should be noted however that they don’t have text messages bundled in them.

If you want weekly and monthly bundles with texts, buy Equitel Jipimie monthly bundles – which combine minutes, text and data.

Or buy both monthly Data Plus and Jipimie bundles.

Or buy a monthly Data Plus bundle and also an Ongea bundle (these only have a voice + text component).
