Do you have an Orange Kenya / Telkom Kenya line and wondering if the line is 4G capable? Read on to learn how to check if your SIM card is 4G ready. Also learn what to do if it isn’t.

What if my line is not 4G enabled? Can I still enjoy browsing the web on Telkom Kenya network at reasonable speeds?

If you still have the old Orange lines (the white SIM / black SIM with Orange Kenya logo on them), chances are that your SIM card is not 4G enabled.

Which means if you have a phone, smartphone, tablet, router or modem (which you use with your laptop / desktop computer) that supports 4G, you’ll not be able to enjoy the benefits of Telkom’s 4G internet until you get your SIM replaced at a Telkom Kenya Shop near you.

You’ll however continue to enjoy accessing the internet on the Telkom Kenya network at 3G speeds.

The speeds are reasonable.

I have access to an old Orange Kenya line which I use from time to time to browse the internet. The speeds aren’t bad either.

If you live in an area with good network coverage, just buy a daily, weekly or monthly data bundle and enjoy browsing the web on the Telkom network.

What if your Telkom Kenya line is 4G capable

Just buy bundles and keep browsing.

Browse at 4G speeds.

Experience a faster, smoother and richer experience when browsing the web.

Enjoy faster upload and download speeds.

If your line is 4G ready, just get a device that supports 4G. You can buy these from Telkom / Airtel / Safaricom shops countrywide.

You can also make your purchase online on Masoko or Jumia Kenya.

Internet bundles you can buy

The internet bundles you end up buying is up to you. It will all depend on your internet needs and on how much money you are willing to spend on data bundles on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

I wrote two articles a few days ago that I think might be of interest to you.

One is about the regular Telkom Kenya data bundles under the 544 > DATA Bundles menu. These are the bundles with no text or voice component.

Then there are the All in One Monthly bundles which have voice, text and data components.

Take a look at those posts, compare the different bundles and decide which one you want to buy.

You can also dial *544# on your device right now and see the different bundles available to you.
