How to check Telkom Kenya airtime balance

Want to learn how to check Telkom Kenya airtime balance? If you are using your Telkom line for calls (voice), SMS (texts) and internet (data bundles) there’s going to come a time when you want to know how much money you have left in your account.

The simplest way to do that is by dialing *131# on your feature phone, smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer.

There are also other ways to get your Telkom balance, some of which I have outlined below.

Dial *131# on your Telkom line

This is by far the quickest way to check your Telkom Kenya airtime balance. Any time you want to check how much money you have left in your account, simply use the shortcode *131#.

Now there’s talk of an Airtel Kenya and Telkom Kenya merger. It is at advanced stage some say. Telkom may soon become part of Airtel Kenya – once the merger is approved by CA.

Now what will happen to holders of Telkom lines who get absorbed into Airtel – and don’t know which shortcode to use once the merger comes into effect?

Well it so happens Airtel Kenya also uses the same shortcode to allow their customers to check their airtime balances.

So whether Telkom customers join the Airtel Kenya network or not, any time you want to check your account balance, simply dial *131# and press OK/ green/ call button to get info on how much you have left.

Use the *100# shortcode on your Telkom line

Another method to check your Telkom account balance is via the 100 shortcode. The shortcode can be used to check many other particulars related to your line – for example your Ziada points, data bundle balance or even your phone number. How to check Telkom Kenya airtime balance

So, here’s how you use the shortcode to get your airtime balance.

  • Dial *100#
  • Go to ‘My Account’ (at the time of writing this post, that is option 1)
  • Select ‘My balance’ (option #1 at the time of writing this post)

And that’s it.

Here is what I see when I do that on my phone: ‘Your balance is KSh 0 valid until 2020-03-12. Ziada Points balance is 711 valid until 2020-07-29

Go to Telkom Kenya SIM Toolkit menu

To use this method to get your account balance, simply go to your phone’s main menu and find the Telkom icon. For old lines – before Orange became Telkom – look for ‘Orange’ on your device’s main menu.

Tap it.
Tap on Telkom Services / Orange Services.
Tap on Services
Tap on Balance > then choose ‘My balance’ (option no.1)
And wait awhile before your balance is displayed on your screen.

Here’s something surprising. Didn’t expect this. Just discovered it by accident. The *144# shortcode used to check Safaricom prepaid account balances also works on Telkom Kenya lines. I tested this on Sunday 11th August 2019 around 9:44 pm – and it works!

This may stop working in the future – or it might not. Just wanted to let you know – so that if you have the Safaricom shortcode on speed dial, you can use it as a quick way to check balances on both of your lines – Safaricom and Telkom.
